Zeke was on his way back to Herrington. He was not as calm as it had looked like. There was so much to think about.

If he had asked Casey to stay, would he have done it? A part of him wished that he had asked. But it felt as if he had not right to do this. How could he destroy his chance to live his dreams, when he himself didn't know what he actually wanted?

Before Casey had shown up his life had been easy. After some wild days he had found his place. The garage, Ben and a few friends. This was all he wanted. He had accepted that he was no one for a serious relationship.

Casey changed everything. He had liked him from the beginning and when he realized how strong his feelings were, it was too late. You can't shut off your feelings like a motor from a car.

Yesterday, when Casey had kissed him, it hit him like a bolt out of the blue. This was it! A part of him cried: No, no, no! Stop it! I'm not gay. I'm ... not ... But he had known better. He had felt his heart racing, his skin buzzing. He hadn't wanted this to end. Never again. He had wanted to hold him, kiss him, fuck him ... Fuck him!

No! He couldn't! He shouldn't! Not now! Casey would leave soon. The seminar - Akron - maybe New York. He would never be able to let him go when he had fucked him ...

Zeke grabbed a cigarette and put the pedal to the metal. Usually this helped him to relax. Not this time. Why the hell he had asked him to stay overnight was beyond him. He hadn't slept much, he had just hold him in his arms and watched him sleeping. He hadn't even dared to smoke because he didn't want to wake him up.

Zeke snorted and started to be annoyed at himself. Stupid feelings. As if he had not always known it. Feelings meant complications and were mostly the end of every kind of friendship.

What did he actually know what Casey wanted? He had big dreams. Cooking, working in a great hotel, maybe one day his own restaurant. Never before he had been so close to seeing his dreams come true. This was not the time to start a serious relationship. A serious relationship? He was thinking about a serious relationship? Who said that Casey wanted one anyway? What had he told him about this pizza boy? 'I knew, it was just for fun and it was okay!' Was it this what he was for Casey?

No, it was more. He remembered his kisses, his lips, his hands ...

"Fuck!"
Zeke slammed on the brakes when he noticed the red light at the last second. How he had come back to Youngstown he couldn't remember ...

Now it was already a week that Casey had left Youngstown. A week which had finally helped Zeke to clear his head again. He missed him, especially in the mornings. Zeke was not a morning person but Casey's good mood was infectious. He was always talkative, could chat and laugh about just everything. Like this morning. Finally Casey had called him.

"I'm so sorry, Zeke," Casey said.
"I should have called earlier but ..."

"Hey, it's okay," Zeke reassured him.
"I guess, this means, everything is going well?"

It was like a keyword. He talked about his roommate Jason, the teachers, the lessons, the cooking and of course about Mr. Pépin. How much new he had already learned. That everyone was so nice to him and he would feel so happy he hadn't been since his grandma died a few months ago.

It was not easy to follow him because he changed subjects without pause. Zeke relaxed and listened to him smiling. Just to hear his voice again was great. When he asked him for advice because of the final cooking he suddenly sounded a bit nervous.

"Everyone will make something special," he said.
"I can't decide what I should do. I could try one of grammy's grand dinners. She only made them on special days. But I haven't done them on my own before. I mean, Zeke, I know there is no chance to win, but ..."

"Why not?"

He could hear that Casey smiled.
"Zeke! One of the participants already was in France for six month to learn more about nouvelle cuisine locally. Another one works in the Niagara Marriott Hotel in Cali. I know nothing else than the recipes of my grandma."

"And these are good! C'mon, Casey, do whatever you like to do most. Don't care about this nouvelle whatever. I bet you can always compete against it."

"If you would be a member of the jury, I would already be half on the way to New York," laughed Casey.

Zeke swallowed. It only lasted for a second, or two.
"Go for it," he murmured.
"You deserve it!"

He could hear someone calling in the background.

"Okay," said Casey.
"Zeke? I'm sorry, but I need to go now. I'm gonna call you later again, okay?"

"Sure. Have fun!"

Zeke shut off the phone. He felt better than all the days before. To know that Casey was so happy made it much easier for him.

He wanted him. And he wanted him to be happy. Casey was a born cook and he would do everything to help him reach his goal. Even if this meant that he couldn't be more for him than a good friend in the moment. Even if this meant that Casey would go to New York for three months.

But he would come back ...

"Hello?"

Zeke looked up, awaiting to see a guy with his car. But it was only the mailman.
"Mr. Tyler? I've a registered letter for you," he said.
"You need to sign here!"
