Snowflake Challenge Day 1

I think the snowflake_challenge is a good opportunity to start into the new writing year. It's not (only) about creating new fanwork, it's about thinking about fandom and everything you connect with it. Sounds like fun, so here we go.

Day 1 - In your own space, talk about your Happy Place—the things that give you joy, calms you or keeps you sane. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Well, for everyone who knows me the answer will be not a big surprise. My happy place in fandom is The Faculty and my boys Casey Connor & Zeke Tyler. I discovered this fandom years ago (when I didn't even know the movie itself) and I fall in love. These two are so different, the king at school and the geek who is bullied all day long, but actually they are both lonely and try to find their place in life. I love to help them on their way; sometimes as friends, sometimes as lovers. Most of the ficlets I write are slightly AU, usually, they take place some time after the movie. Usually there is a happy end because I love the romantic, fluffy stuff, though I can't resist a bit h/c now and then.

Sometimes I do write other Fandoms, too. Jeremiah (TV), mainly because of Mr. Smith - brilliant performance of Sean Astin; the reason why I started to write fanfiction. Lucifer. Supernatural. The Walking Dead. But at the end, even after almost 8 years, I will always come back to The Faculty.

The Faculty is the BEST. It's such an underrated film. And yeah, Casey and Zeke have such intense chemistry. I was so bummed out about how the films ships happened [or didn't happen, more to the point]. Thank goodness fanfic is there to fix canon! ;D

:) That's the reason why I love fanfiction. You can find out so much more about your characters and fix everything that seems to be wrong.

Exactly! That's often how I console myself with media doesn't live up to its potential - "well, I can't wait to see how the fic writers re-shape this!'.

Oh man I loved that film! It's been years since I saw it, I think I'm due for a rewatch now :)

Sounds interesting, and a good happy place! I must re-watch The Faculty with fandom glasses and try to see the chemistry you mentioned between Casey and Zeke. It has been ages and ages since I watched the movie so it should be good fun, and thank you for giving me something to re-watch! :-D

I hope you will enjoy it to re-watch the movie. Though I have to admit, for me all the fanfiction stories about the boys are much more intriguing than the movie itself.

Sadly there is no comm on DW, but an old (now almost abandoned) one at LJ = Jacked up. But if you want to read really good fanfiction about The Faculty, I would advise you to visit the journal of HoneyandVinegar (also at LJ). You can also find some stuff at AO3.

Have fun. Though maybe the movie itself might be a bit old-fashioned nowadays. But young Josh Hartnett and Elijah Wood are worth it to risk a look.

I'm glad you found your happy place in The Faculty. I've never seen it but I checked the IMDb page and it looks like a fun movie. Also a lot of names I recognized.

Here from Snowflake!

This is my first time doing the snowflake challenge and I figured it would be a good way to get me back into fandom without too much stress. :) I love that we have fandoms -- they can be 8 months old or 8 years old -- that we can always fall back on and feel the same joy. My go-to fandom is Stargate and I think its similar to The Faculty -- no matter what I can always go back and revel in the work and fannish love there. :)

I enjoyed watching Stargate a lot, but I never thought to write/read fanfiction about it. Maybe I should re-watch the one or the other episode and see what will happen.

I've been living in the SGA fic rabbit hole for a few months now, basically reading the entire catalogue that I can find. I've written a couple -- but I'm not a big writer (currently). I'm still newer in the SG1 fic-fandom. I think for me the Stargate worlds have so much possibility and so many twists that the shows couldn't do or didn't get to. :)
