TV Shows
01. - Stay close (Mini-TV Show, running on Netflix, movie adaption of a book by Harlan Coben)
A crime story with a touch of mystery. The lives of a photojournalist, a mom, and a homicide detective are turned upside down when some dark secrets are revealed.
While the show's first half was a bit long-breathed and confusing, the second half and the end, in particular, were unexpected and excellent.
02. - Mindhunters (TV Show, running on Netflix, based on the true-crime book Mindhunter: Inside the FBI's Elite Serial Crime Unit written by John E. Douglas and Mark Olshaker) - Season 1 and 2
The show tells the story of two FBI agents who started a research project to interview imprisoned serial killers to understand their psychology with the hope of applying this knowledge to solve ongoing cases.
After starting slowly, the show gets more and more intriguing quickly. Despite the subject matter, the story is told in a realistic, almost sober way, but the interviews with some of the cruelest (real) serial killers will give you the shudders more than once.
03. - Schitt's Creek (TV Show, available on Amazon Prime for free) - Season 1, 2, and 3
Schitt's creek is a Canadian television sitcom and tells the story of the formerly filthy-rich Rose family, who is forced to live in a cheap motel in a town they once bought as a joke - Schitt's Creek - after suddenly broke.
It's not what I usually watch, the humor very flippant and sketchy, and at first, I wasn't sure if I would enjoy it. At the moment, I am watching season 4, and I admit, I am kind of addicted.
04. - Cobra Kai (TV Show, available on Netflix) - Season 4
The series takes place years after the events of the Cobra Kai movies. Most main characters turn up again (played by the same actors, which makes the series even more fun), complemented by some great, young actors.
Karate and rivalry are the main subjects of the series again = nothing new, but this is what makes the series so appealing for me. Can wait for the next season.
05. - Iron Fist (Marvel TV Show, available on Netflix) - Season 1 and 2
Danny Rand returns to New York after being missing for years after a horrible accident, trying to reconnect with old friends, who are not making it easy for him. During his stay at a mysterious monastery, no one has ever heard about he has earned incredible kung-fu mastery and the awful power of the Iron Fist.
While many people say that this Marvel show is one of the worst, I can't entirely agree with that. I have had lots of fun watching it; I like the characters and especially the storyline of season two.
Documentaries
01. The Rescue (National Geographic docu, running on Disney plus)
Maybe you can still remember the catastrophe in 2018 in Thailand when 12 young boys and their coach got trapped into a flooded cave?
This docu chronicles the story of their rescue, and even if you know how it will end, it's such an enthralling film, which at the end will make you believe in wonder again.
02. Saving Notre Dame (National Geographic docu, running on Disney plus)
It's a 45-minute docu about the horrible fire, which 2019 almost destroyed one of the most famous symbols of Paris.
I have to say that I was a tiny bit disappointed about this docu because it is too superficial, and too many questions about the rebuilding stay open at the end.
Movies
01. Spiderman - No way home
Peter Parker's secret identity is revealed to the world. Doctor Strange tries to help; wants to make the world forget about Peter's identity. But the spell goes wrong and brings back all of Peter's enemies, wildly resolved to destroy the world.
I am not the biggest Marvel Fan and have watched this movie with my son. To my own surprise, I did enjoy it much more than expected; it's funny and exciting, even if I didn't understand all the complex context of the Marvel Universe.
Audiobooks
01. - Survivor In Death (Eve Dallas Part 20 by J.D.Robb aka Nora Roberts)
A crime story with a touch of science fiction. Eve Dallas is called to a multiple homicide in the middle of the night, five people dead, including two children. But the murder has overlooked the family's nine-year-old daughter, the sole eyewitness to a seemingly inexplicable crime.
This book is one of the series' best I have listened to so far; it's thrilling, but despite the theme not too cruel. Just one note: If you think about it, to give it a try, I would suggest starting with book one. It's not mandatory to understand the story itself, but it brings so much more fun if you know more about the background of Eve.
02. - Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (by J.K. Rowling)
I guess I don't have to say much about the story because everyone has at least heard about it once?
Even after knowing the book and the movie, it was fun to listen to the audiobook and remember long-gone times when I devoured the book for the first time.
