In your space, create your own fandom challenge.

There are so many great (challenge) communities out there, many of which can need a bit more attention. There are some big communities almost everyone has already heard about, but the admins of smaller / new ones also put a lot of work and love into them.

Every community can only stay alive when at least some people risk a look now and then to post, read the fills, and comment. So, why not make it a challenge to check out a new community (if you don't know where to look for them, [community profile] fandomcalendar or [community profile] fandom_on_dw might be a good start). It can be that you will find your new passion for the year 2025.

Or revisit an old community you have left behind one day. Maybe it will still be active and welcome you back with open arms.

I tried, but there are so many places I check regularly, I didn't find anything new to me.

Howbout I just link the last rec list of active communities I made, which was Fullmetal Alchemist. I make one every Friday and post the link on [community profile] followfriday to encourage folks to use the communities we have.

You can follow my community for the writing of Carolyn Ives Gilman: [community profile] twentyplanets. It's currently dead but I plan on posting some links soon to her newer short stories that are free to read online.

She's a Nebula award and Hugo award nominated writer of sci-fi novels and novellas, many of which are loosely collected into a universe called the Twenty Planets.

Yay! I highly recommend her work. It's basically "what if sci-fi, but written by an anthropologist?" :D

Wasn't that also supposed to be LeGuin's line, except "child of anthropologists" instead of practicing ones?

Oh maybe! I'm not as familiar with LeGuin, but I've often seen reviewers of Gilman draw comparisons between her and LeGuin.
