Day 8 - In your own space, post self-recs for at least three fanworks that you created.

1. Bird without wings
This one is not perfect (though I have slightly edited it in 2016) but maybe it is one of the most important stories I have ever written. Because it was the first 'The Faculty' one, written for one of the most wonderful woman I have met online. Back then I wasn't aware that even today, about 10 years later, I would still love this fandom.

2. The Worst And The Best
This one is a Halloween story (focus: The Faculty), I've written in 2009. Again, it might be not perfect, but I have had so much fun to write this one and to mix up two movies of Josh Hartnett (The Faculty and H20)

3. Courage
This one is part of my Homeland-Universe, based on Casey Connor & Zeke Tyler, who have built up a life together and finally have adopted a little boy, Jason. In this stand-alone story, Jason is confronted with prejudices and intolerance for the first time.

(Because I am a day behind, have day 7 now)

Day 7 - Stretch yourself a little and try something new. Go play in a new fandom or with a new pairing. Try working in a new medium. Or check out some fanworks that are new to you.

First I was not sure what to do with this challenge. But suddenly it just happened, without thinking much about it.

I did start to watch 'Homeland'. Yes, I know, I am way behind, the last season (8) will start in June 2019, but better to start late then to ignore it forever.

So far I only did watch the first 3 episodes, but I am intrigued. And I already did write a double-drabble which fits the actual prompt of [profile] anything_drabble: tragic.

Day 6 - In your own space, create a list of at least three fannish things you'd love to receive, something you've wanted but were afraid to ask for - a fannish wish-list of sorts.

1. Icons, banners, and fanart for 'The Faculty' - in particular Casey Connor/Zeke Tyler ones, but Stokely Mitchell or Stokely Mitchell/Stan Rosado would be nice, too.

2. Icons, banners, and fanart for 'Jeremiah' (TV series 2002-2004) - in particular Mr. Smith and Kurdy Malloy (singles or together, but not as a pairing)

3. A banner (and maybe a fitting icon) for my 'Reboot' Universe (it's an AU crossover series The Faculty/Jeremiah and takes place in a postapocalyptic world, where the dead of the alien queen caused a virus which killed all adults. It mainly focuses on Casey Connor/Zeke Tyler (The Faculty), but also Mr. Smith and other people living in the Mountain (Jeremiah) and their try to build a new world.)

Day 5 - In your own space, promote three communities, challenges, blogs, pages, Twitters, Tumblrs or platforms and explain why you love them.

I want to promote two writing communities, I love, and if you are looking for a place to let your fantasy run wild you may want to check them out. As an extra, I added a multifandom community for advertising.

1. [community profile] getyourwordsout
This comm is open for every writer (professional, original work or fanfiction) who needs a challenge to overstep the lines or who is looking for encouragement to build a regular writing habit.

There are various pledges (word related or habit related) to choose from, and no one will blame you if you don't meet your pledge at the end of the year. The comm also offers writing-related discussions and various writing challenges to keep you running.

Important: Sign up to the community and make your pledge for 2019 until January 15

:::

2. [community profile] fffc // [livejournal.com profile] fffc = Froday Flash Fiction Challenge
FFFC originally was a writing community for Lord of the Rings related short fiction. Froday = Frodo+Friday ;) When the fandom started to get quieter, the comm almost died out, until in 2015 [profile] naemsi took over the comm and resurrected it. She finally opened FFFC for all fandoms and any kind of fanwork. Since 2017 there is also a DW comm (where I am the co-mod; really I still don't know how this could happen, but I love it)

We now have regular prompts every second Friday plus a little special once a month and a bigger, monthly special.

:::

3. Check out [community profile] fandom_on_dw if you are looking for a community to find more (mostly writing) challenges or communities. You don't need to be a member of the comm to lurk, but if you want to advertise a community you fell in love with or your own shiny new community to find members you need to join at first.

Day 3 - In your own space, share a favorite piece of original canon (a TV episode, a song, a favorite interview, a book, a scene from a movie, etc) and explain why you love it so much.

Just one? Really??? This is a hard challenge. I hope you don't mind if I cheat a tiny bit?

1. Lord of the Rings

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sHjv0GS-f8Q

I just need to hear this music and I will leave the world behind and I will immerse into Middle-earth. Even after all the years it still works.

2. Sean Astin at Ring Con 2006 (Bonn, Germany)

A panel

together with Miranda Otto (Eowyn)

Together with his daughter (Sam's daughter Elenor) and Sarah McLeod (Rosie)

I went to Ring Con for some years and I met a lot of LotR actors but to meet Sean was one of the most exciting things in my life.

Followed close by
3. meeting Christopher Lee

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9468-QKRoCg

Christopher Lee was working close together with the Tolkien Ensemble. During a concert tour in Germany he joined some of the concerts as the narrator of the story. And of course, we had to go and watch.

I will never forget the moment when he entered the stage to took place in his 'throne'. Despite his age, he had such charisma and such a compelling voice, and we were sitting so close to the stage that we almost could touch him. To remember this moment alone makes me shivers again.

Day 2 - Rec at least three fanworks that you didn’t create. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

This one is a bit tricky because I already have soo many good stories in my mind and it seems impossible to choose only some of them.

1. Grand Rapids by [livejournal.com profile] aliensouldream
It's an AU Faculty story, written for Halloween. 1910 two strangers (of course Casey Connor & Zeke Tyler) meet in a train, not knowing how much this one night will affect their lives.

This story has everything you can think about: it's slightly creepy, touching, very dramatic. How can I not love it?

(warning: the story contains slash)

:::

2. Dragon & Princesses by [livejournal.com profile] honeyandvinegar
Another Faculty Story (slightly AU) which is so worth to read it. Honey has written a lot 'The Faculty stories' and I always used to call her 'the queen of the fandom'. All of them are good, some of them even brilliant. But whenever I have to make a choice, I will choose this one as one of her best.

Two young boys (Casey & Zeke), so different from each other. But both of them have to deal with some harsh problems, and they are sent to a therapy group where they finally start to build a kind of friendship.

(warning: heavy angst, some depression, bullying, and suicidal thoughts)

:::

3. High Society by [livejournal.com profile] honeyandvinegar
Okay, I couldn't resist. Another Faculty fic by Honeyandvinegar (very long = 29 chapters). But it's brilliant. Totally AU. Takes place during the Great Depression, where a lot of people were struggling with their daily life. But there's an 'industry' that's ALWAYS successful.

Casey and Zeke met in a whorehouse where they... No, not telling more, you will have to read this to find out what's going on. ;)

(warning: hey, this fic takes place in a whorehouse, so what do you expect?)

:::

4. A different kind of prison (The Sanctuary) by [personal profile] ink_gypsy
This one is an RPS (Sean Astin, Elijah Wood) I have just read today. Wonderfully written, very touching. Even if you don't know anything about the backstory (The Sanctuary is longer series plus a lot of single stories you can also find at AO3), you will understand what's going on.

Sean & Elijah has built a life together in a lonely cabin in the woods when a video chat with a friend sparks a difficult conversation between them at New Year's Eve.
prisca: (faculty - my boys)

I think the [community profile] snowflake_challenge is a good opportunity to start into the new writing year. It's not (only) about creating new fanwork, it's about thinking about fandom and everything you connect with it. Sounds like fun, so here we go.

Day 1 - In your own space, talk about your Happy Place—the things that give you joy, calms you or keeps you sane. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Well, for everyone who knows me the answer will be not a big surprise. My happy place in fandom is The Faculty and my boys Casey Connor & Zeke Tyler. I discovered this fandom years ago (when I didn't even know the movie itself) and I fall in love. These two are so different, the king at school and the geek who is bullied all day long, but actually they are both lonely and try to find their place in life. I love to help them on their way; sometimes as friends, sometimes as lovers. Most of the ficlets I write are slightly AU, usually, they take place some time after the movie. Usually there is a happy end because I love the romantic, fluffy stuff, though I can't resist a bit h/c now and then.

Sometimes I do write other Fandoms, too. Jeremiah (TV), mainly because of Mr. Smith - brilliant performance of Sean Astin; the reason why I started to write fanfiction. Lucifer. Supernatural. The Walking Dead. But at the end, even after almost 8 years, I will always come back to The Faculty.
prisca: (general - heart in fire)

I cannot say often enough how glad I am to have all of you in my life.

And once more I have to say Thank You for Christmas cards I've gotten last week by [livejournal.com profile] lindahoyland and [personal profile] ink_gypsy. I love them.

Thank you

Today two more Christmas Cards arrived. Thank you to [personal profile] primwood and [livejournal.com profile] aliensouldream

I love this time of the year :)

Even if I don't celebrate Thanksgiving, I think this is a great day to let you know how grateful I am to have all of you in my life.
prisca: (birthday)

Dear [personal profile] primwood,

I hope you will have a great day.

Some say that a birthday is a great time to look back at the past year. Others say a birthday is a good time to think about what lies ahead. I say "cut the cake" and let's eat.
prisca: (halloween 1)
Wednesday, October 31. I guess you know what this means? Yes, it's the most spooky day of the year. Enjoy it!

>

On one mystic, magic night,
Jack O Lanterns glowing bright,
kids with bags of candy sweet,
roam door to door and street to street,
all dressed up for trick or treat!

Wizards with wands, pirates with hooks,
monsters and clowns with spooky looks,

kings and queens with capes and crowns,
a princess in her royal gown,

witches with warts and fairies with wings
movies stars with sparkling rings,

vampires with fangs that bite,
ghost that boo all dressed in white.

Imaginations taken flight,
on that one mystic, magic night.

Oh, the fun of Halloween,
be young or old or in between!

Post a pic from a favorite movie a day without a caption. Do it for ten days maybe?

No, I won't ask you today what movie this screenshot is from :)

This is the last day of my movie meme. It was so much fun to do it and it did remind me that I haven't watched the one or the other movie for such a looong time. So, this week I already re-watched 2 Miss Marple movies and Apollo 13. Some others will follow soon.
