In your own space, set some goals for the coming year.

I will keep my main writing goal small. After a lot of months without any word last year all I want is to go back into regular writing and to stick to it through the year. I did choose the habit pledge 120 days at [community profile] getyourwordsout and 75K words at [community profile] inkingitout because I don't want to put me under pressure too much. I've learned that when I start to fall back it demotivates me even more.

Another goal is to participate in challenges more regularly again. I'm a member of various writing communities. Of course, I won't write every prompt but I will try to fill prompts for any of these comms, because only active members can keep a community alive.

One goal I have every year anew: I like to discover new fandoms. It is fun, it can be challenging, and I do enjoy writing them. But to be honest: so far there was no fandom I did fall in love with head over heels, not willing to let it go again. Maybe in 2020? Or maybe I am just a hopeless case when it comes to 'my boys' = Casey&Zeke forever. Lol.

I would love to write something longer again (maybe 4-5K - yes, for me, this is long) and/or to finish one of my WIP series. But I am not sure about this, because, at the moment, I'm happy with writing 1-sentence-stories up to drabbles. Words, you know? Written every day of 2020 so far. This means a lot to me, and I won't ruin it with stressing me out too much.

Challenge #3: Pimp Your Favorite Communities, Fests or Challenges!

I do love low-pressure multifandom challenge communities because they offer lots of writing ideas for my (mostly small and unknown) fandoms. Big Bangs and exchanges are only stressing me out, so I usually try to avoid them.

Here are some communities I'm a member of:
Drabble communities
- [community profile] drabble_zone (works can be 100 or 200 words)
- [community profile] 100words (only 100 words are allowed)
- [community profile] anythingdrabble (works can be 100, 200, 300, 400, 500 words)

[community profile] 31_days (every month there is a new list with every day prompts. Check out the January prompts if you are interested)

[community profile] 100fandoms (there is a table with 100 prompts you have to fill with 100 different fandoms)

[community profile] fffc (a multifandom community for every kind of fanwork which offer various challenges during the months. I do co-mod the DW comm, while the main community is still at Livejournal)

[community profile] prompt_dump (unfortunately on hiatus because of lack of interest, but I still do love the idea of comment fics. There are already a lot of prompts which are waiting for getting filled - maybe from you?)

I am also in love with [community profile] getyourwordsout, a yearlong community to help you build a regular writing habit. Signing up for 2020 is still open until January 15.

Challenge #1
In your own space, introduce yourself!

Hey, I am Prisca, and I am here because I am addicted to words.

Lol! It feels strange to introduce myself here after having journals at LJ and DW for over 12 years.

When I started with LJ, I was pretty unsure about it where the road would take me. I am more introverted than extroverted, and English is not my native language, so I was not sure if I would be able to make some friends. But soon, I discovered some fandoms and fanfiction, and everyone was so friendly that I dared to make my first posts. Better not look for them, I have to admit my English was very rough back then. I know it's still not perfect, but I hope I've learned enough to make my posts more bearable.

Today my main account is at Dreamwidth, though my LJ account (prisca1960) is still existing because I don't want to lose contact with some old friends who never made the step to Dreamwidth. Sadly I have to admit that I was not the best friend during 2020; though I visited Dreamwidth almost every day, there were only a handful of posts and even fewer comments. I hope to do better this year because I miss it to be in contact with my friends.

I would not call myself an author, but I love to write fanfiction (sometimes a poem or original ficlets), just for fun. You can find my drabbles and mini-ficlets at my writing archive or at AO3 (not updated since a while; I guess this is something else I should change in 2021).

Last year I also discovered my love for making icons. I am still a beginner, but if you want to risk a look, go here.
prisca: (general - terrible life)

It's not a typical writing challenge, but a challenge around fandom at all. Check out the site if you are interested.

This year I only made it through the first half of the challenge, but with the great change they made for 2020 (Snowflake will run from January 1 to January 30 and a new challenge will be posted every second day) I hope I will do better this time.

This Christmas,
may you have the fulfillment
of seeing around you
the people you love the most.
May you have the satisfaction
of creating special memories
they will remember with pleasure forever.
This Christmas,
may you feel peaceful and contented,
knowing what Christmas means,
and celebrating it your way.

I guess I have to say sorry this year.

For being such a bad friend, reading and commenting much too rarely.

For not sending Christmas cards this year.

For being sooo late to say Thank you to:
[livejournal.com profile] julchen11 for her wonderful card
[livejournal.com profile] addie71 for her wonderful card
[livejournal.com profile] naemi for the card and the chocolate
[livejournal.com profile] lindahoyland for the funny virtuel card

Just know that I can't put in into words how much you all mean to me; the world without LJ and DW would be so empty. And I will try to remember this more often next year.

Dear [personal profile] primwood

My Birthday wish, this year for you
Is for your best year yet
A year where wants are very few,
But what you want, you get.

Have a wondrous birthday and year.

I've seen some of my friends doing this book-meme during the last week and decided that it might be time to also do it. I was a book worm when I was younger; unfortunately since some years reading often gives me a headache, so I prefer audiobooks now.

The BBC estimates that most people will only read 6 books out of the 100 listed below. Reblog this and bold the titles you’ve read

Finally here it is ;)

It was a great trip I did enjoy so much. Okay, the arrival was not so much fun. I did go by train, which I usually like, but it was the hottest day of the week and the train was much too overcrowded. And when I finally reached my terminal station there was no free cab far and wide to bring me to the holiday resort, so I had to wait for about half an hour in the burning sun.

But when I finally reached my hotel every stress fell off within a second or so. I was at Weissenhäuser Strand before with my children, and I always loved it to be there, but this was about 20 years ago, and I was not sure if it would be still the same. But it felt like coming home :)

So often I feel stressed out and tired but when I was there it felt as if nothing else did exist any more than the sea, the wind, the waves, the seagulls. Every day I went down to the sea to sit there at a bench on the sea bridge for an hour or so. I did take short walks along the boardwalk and had lunch at a small bistro right at the sea. The weather was perfect, not too hot. One day we even had pretty stormy weather and I did love this.

Every day in the afternoon I went back to my hotel, and after a short rest, I visited the hotel pool with a big wellness area. I did enjoy it very much, though I'm not a big sauna- and wellness friend. But the two pools and the whirlpool were great. And not overcrowded because most of the visitors prefer to go to the big waterpark of the resort.

Later I went to the 'village square' of the resort to have dinner (very yummy). When I got home around 8.00 o'clock my feet were hurting like hell but I felt sooo totally satisfied; I couldn't have been happier.

It was difficult to say goodbye after three great days, but I found a good solution to make it easier:

I've already booked my next trips to Weissenhäuser Strand. ;)

Vacation

Tomorrow I will make a short trip to the Baltic Sea. And (to my own surprise) I am sooo looking forward to it.

It was a speedy last minute decision, and I did book the room before I could change my mind about it. It's a small holiday resort only some steps away from the sea, and I did go there ages ago together with my children for some times. I always loved it, though the children were more interested in the waterpark and videogames than in walks along the beach.

This time it will be different, I can do whatever I want, which means that I don't make any plans but I will follow my mood. Walks along the beach; sitting on a bench, listening to an audiobook, probably swimming in the pool of the hotel (not the water park; though it is great, but it's more for action, not for relaxing).

Probably I will tell you more when I am back on Sunday. :)

Love you all.
prisca: (general - heart in fire)
... [personal profile] aliensouldream and [personal profile] primwood for giving me the needed push to watch 'Rocketman'. Without your reviews, I would never have considered watching this movie, because I have to admit that I never was very interested in Elton John. Though I know a lot of his songs, of course, who does not?

Yesterday I had a day off, and I decided that it might be a good idea to have some fun. So I did some summer shopping at first = did buy my first new bathing suit since ages, a colorful tankini; I was unsure at first, but the shop assistant convinced me to give it a try. And it looks great. Now I only have to convince me to go swimming more often. The only sport I love, but, I admit, I was pretty lazy during the last years.

After shopping, I went to the cinema to watch Rocketman. Woah, what a movie. I love every bit of it. Colorful costumes, great songs, but not completely a feel-good movie just to lean back and enjoy. It tells the story of a guy who is like a sparkling god on stage but behind his shell, he is desperately fighting his loneliness with too much party, alcohol, sex ... until it almost breaks him.

I know, there are critics who say that not all the stories of the movie are true, but hey. Elton John was the executive producer of the movie and obviously, he thinks it's good like it is. IMO not only good, but it's also brilliant. Maybe I will go and watch it again, but at least the DVD is a must-have as soon as it is released.

(Snowflake has already reached its end, and I am behind. But hey, it's never too late, isn't it? I can still do the days I have skipped.)

Day 11 - In your own space, talk about your creative process(es) — anything from the initial inspiration to how you feel after something’s done. Do you struggle with motivation or is it a smooth process? Do you have any tricks up your sleeve to pull out when a fanwork isn’t cooperating? What is your level of planning to pantsing/winging it?

Hm, this one is a bit tricky for me.

Writing usually helps me to leave real life behind for a while, which can be very soothing when times get rough.

Usually I am writing for various communities. I start writing when a prompt/a challenge talks to me. And because I mostly write short fanfiction stories, there is usually not much research necessary. I'm just following my gut feeling, and sometimes it can happen that a story suddenly takes an entirely different direction than originally planned. Often I am more satisfied with the result than expected; sometimes I am deeply disappointed and have to admit that the story just doesn't work.

Then there are two options: 1. I will delete it and never go back to the idea again. Or, 2. I will put it into a folder with 'unfished stories and story ideas' so that I can go back to it when the times feels right.

:::

But it can also happen, that I desperately want to write, but nothing seems to works. Times like these can drive me crazy, though I know, it is kinda stupid to force me too much. I am not a professional writer who needs to write because this is his job. I am only playing with words because I love to do this. To force me too much will only make me feel bad.

So much better to give it some time, and try to remember why I do love fandom and writing so much. It can also help to re-read older fiction I have written ages ago and to realize: Hey, it was you who did write this.

It might take a while but I guess sooner or later I will always find the way back into writing.

Day 12 - In your own space, create your own challenge

I would love to challenge everyone who is reading this, to step outside of your comfort zone.

- If you are more the lurker, why don't get active (again)? Make a journal post, write a drabble, join a community...

- If you are a fanfic writer. why don't you try to write an original piece of work or a poem?

- If you are a writer, why don't you try to make some icons, banner etc. for your stories?

- If you are an artist, why don't you try to 'play around with words' a bit?

- If you usually prefer to watch/read/write love stories, try out science fiction...

Whatever you are doing, risk a look beyond your own nose. You might be surprised what to find there.
