It seems there are tropes about everything! For this challenge, we'll be taking inspiration for our work from bookish tropes!

Let's start with some stock icons and sig tags based on the tropes 'magical library/librarian/book'.

One text icon using the trope 'portal book'.

One big collage of pictures using the trope 'useful books'. Click for original size.

According to Etsy, anything made before 2003 is vintage. Which doesn't make me feel old at all. For this challenge, you may create anything, as long as it features a fandom or stock from before 2003.

You can quote me on that
Sometimes words are so perfect that they transcend the situation in which they were originally said. That's what this challenge is meant for.

Because I won't be around next week (yeah, finally going back to the baltic sea together with a good friend), I've only made four works for this challenge.

Here we go )

If I had a million dollars

Write a list of at least five things a character would do with a mega-million (billion) dollar windfall.

Surprise! I will go with three characters of The Faculty (yes, I know, I am boring, sorry). Please notice: the lists will be slightly AU because they are based on the fanfiction I write.

1. Casey Conner
- restoring the old farm of his grandparents because it's the place he felt most happy during his childhood
- moving to New York or San Francisco, any place where he can finally feel free and live the life he wants (maybe together with his secret one and always crush Zeke?!)
- buying all the photo equipment he can only secretly dream about
- visiting the most famous photo schools to learn from the best
- with the rest, he would support other people, like underrated young artists who are waiting for their chance or talented children coming from poor circumstances

2. Zeke Tyler (The Faculty)
Well, I am sure...
- after some time of wild parties and pouring money down the drain, he would finally realize that it is about time to grow up, and he would go back to highschool to graduate
- restoring his old GTO (which got crashed during the alien incident) instead of buying a new one
- officially starting his own business instead of secretly brewing Scat in his garage
- looking for ways to secretly support Casey because he knows this little geek would never accept any help from him
- finally, he would leave Ohio behind, move to New York or San Fransisco, starting an exciting new life (hopefully together with Casey ;))

3. Stokely Mitchell (The Faculty)
- buying lots of black dresses with a touch of red, after Stan told her that she looks great in it
- buying a house for her mother and her little siblings
- visiting workshops about writing led by her most famous authors
- self-publishing her first SciFi novel
- making her most geeky dream come true: a trip into outer space

Finally!

I guess not many have noticed my absence during the last weeks. I am not very active anyway. Shame on me.

But to make a long story short:

It was on July 17 that I was on the way to a bakery for some biscuits and cake when I suddenly stumbled and fell. Being in shock, I was lying in the middle of the sidewalk, no one else around, and I tried to sort out what had happened.

1. Glasses - check - everything okay
2. I need to stand up ... but I couldn't because my right arm hurt like hell.
3. What's that? A gap between my teeth? One of my incisors gone??? Help!
4. I NEED to get up and go home again to check this out. But there is blood on my bag and the pavement. Not good.
5. Finally, a car crossed the road... and passed without noticing me—only sometime later another two cars which thankfully stopped.
6. Two (young?) guys, one of them talked with me, while the other called the ambulance.
7. I was too confused to protest when they told me I had to go to the hospital for a check.
8. Emergency room. It became clear quickly that I had two minor lacerations (under my eye and at my upper lip). And a broken arm. Twice. With a dislocated elbow. The right one, of course.
9. Emergency operation, bones fixed with nails and plate.

I had to stay at the hospital for three days; since then, I have been at home. The first two weeks were difficult, but then it slowly started to get better. Still not okay, but at least I can be back at the PC for some time every day. I've already started making some icons and banners, and it works okay as long as I'm not overdoing it.

Yeah! I have missed it. And I hope to start writing again soon (not that I've written much lately ;), but it's a difference if you are not in the mood to write or if you can't write at all)

End of the story.

In your own space, share a favorite memory about fandom: the first time you got into fandom, the last time a fanwork touched your heart, wild times with fellow fans (whether online or off-line), a lovely comment you’ve received or have left for someone.

Another easy challenge. Or maybe not, because there are so many memories I don't want to miss. But because here it is asked for a favorite one, I will go with Ring Con, because this is the first one that came into my mind.

Ring Con is a german convention that, in the beginning, was based on the Lord of The Ring fandom. I guess I mentioned before already that I usually am a more introverted, shy person, and visiting an event like that was new and exciting for me. But to my own surprise, it never felt like being at the wrong place.

Meeting people I had met online before and watching some actors of my beloved movie on stage was sooo great. Fun fact: for some of the actors (like Sarah McLeod or Craig Parker), this con was a new experience, too, but they all were so lovely and interesting. The most well-known actor at this con was Brad Dourif, and we all hadn't even seen him on-screen back then, because Two Towers was not even out. But it was so exciting to stand vis-a-vis him during the autograph session.

Over the following years, I visited the con every time, and I got to meet more popular actors like Billy Boyd (what a nice guy), John Rys Davis (when he starts talking, there is no end ... laughs ... he's driven the poor stuff crazy during the autograph session because he wanted to chat with every fan), David Wenham, Miranda Otto, Andy Serkis and lots more. The highlight for me was meeting Sean Astin. Only for him, I stepped over my lines and went to a photo session - no, I won't show the photo because I am looking like a dork, but I love it and even more the memory of this particular moment.

Later, Ring Con started to change, other fandoms found their way to the con, when the interest in Lord of the Rings began to fade away step by step; finally, it got renamed into Magic Con. And I started to lose interest.

Until in 2019, the Lucifer cast (Tom Ellis, Rachel Harris, Kevin Alejandro, D.B. Woodside, and Lesley-Ann Brandt) was announced. I knew I had to go and see them. And even if it was not the same anymore, most old friends had long stopped visiting the con, but nevertheless, it was a great convention I did enjoy so much.

A sweet and short catch-up because I was busy in RL during the last week.

In your own space, rec a fanwork (fic, art, vid, playlist, anything!) you did not create.

Sadly, most of the fandoms I used to read for years are not active anymore. So, just in case anyone is still interested in good old 'The Faculty' fics, I will leave a link to the sadly abandoned journals of [livejournal.com profile] honeyandvinegar and [personal profile] aliensouldream here. Go and enjoy; you will find the most fantastic stuff there.

In your own space, Interact with someone.

Well, I guess I will count this as done because usually, I am not a very talkative person, but I've already 'chatted' with the one or the other since Snowflake started.

In your own space, tell us who you would recast in a film, tv series, or webseries, or maybe someone voicing a cartoon or videogame. Or who would you cast to play a character in a book, comic or maybe even your own fiction!

After reading this challenge, the first idea crossing my mind was Gone with the wind. Not that I want to see a remake of it, because, for me, the movie is just perfect. But I would love to see Josh Hartnett in the role of Rhett Butler. And maybe Elijah Wood as Scarlett? (Nooo, joke, though it might be funny to see him wearing the beautiful dresses of a Dixieland lady)). I don't know, who I would like to see in the role of Scarlett, but Josh would make a great Rhett Butler, I am sure of that.

Last month, Spotify sent out their yearly “Spotify Wrap” - summary of our listening habits over the past year, divided into categories of “Top 5 __”. We don’t have Spotify’s ‘scientific algorithm’ but we can do what we do best - estimate!

In your own space, list your Fandom Wrap categories.

Okay, this one is tricky, because I actually have only two main fandoms. The rest is more fandom-hopping - whenever a movie or TV show gives me an idea for a drabble/flashfic, I will probably write it down, but it is possible that I will never come back to this fandom again.

But let's see...

What are your top five fandoms for 2021 based on the amount of time you interacted with them?
1. The Faculty
2. Jeremiah (TV)

3. Cobra Kai
4. The Umbrella Academy
5.

What are your top five fandom spaces in terms of time spent? (AO3, Twitter, Tumblr, Reddit, Dreamwidth, and others)
1. Dreamwidth
2. Livejournal (though I am using it only for x-posting stuff from DW)
3. AO3 (but I admit, I've almost neglected my account there)
4.
5.

What are the top five ways you interacted in fandoms? (Reading fanfic, writing, commenting, watching videos, chatting with friends, making art, or anything else you can think of).
1. Writing fanfiction
2. Making icons
3. (Co) modding [community profile] fffc
4.
5.

What are the top five things you did to contribute to fandom in terms of time? Did you write? Comment? Send positive energy into the universe? Create art?
1. participating in various writing challenges
2. making icons for [community profile] 100fandomicons and [community profile] dailyicons
3. organizing challenges for [community profile] fffc
4.
5.

What things did you create that took the most time?
1. writing various drabbles and short ficlets
2. creating 100 icons for 100 different fandoms
3. organizing stuff at [community profile] fffc
4.
5.

Have a Top 5 List you'd like to share? By all means!
5 audiobooks I enjoyed to listen:
1. Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone by J.K. Rowling
2. Survivor In Death (Eve Dalles 20) by J.D.Robb
3. The Collini Case by Ferdinand von Schirach
4. Good Omens by Terry Pratchett
5. The Marco Effect / Buried by Jussi Adler-Olsen

In your own space, celebrate a personal win from the past year: it can be a list of fanworks you're especially proud of, a gift of your time to the community, a quality or skill you cultivated in yourself, something you generally feel went well.

This is a difficult question because, when I think back to the last year, it doesn't feel as if there is much I can be proud of. All in all, I felt pretty tired and worn out much too often, and even managing daily life sometimes turned into a struggle. So it is not a surprise that I didn't reach many of my goals in 2021.

I finished my second icon table for [community profile] 100fandomicons last minute, and I am not happy with all of the icons, but yes, I am proud of some. If you want to risk a look, go here.

And even I was miles away from reaching my word count goal, and I didn't reach my habit goal of writing at least 240 days either, I did write. Drabbles and short fic only, but there were words, and it was always satisfying to finish a little writing challenge. So, I guess it doesn't make sense to feel disappointed for not reaching my yearly goals because I can't change this anymore. Better to look back at the works I have finished and to be proud of every written word. This is much more encouraging.
